Techniques to make animations

In 2D animation, there are many ways to make an animated film. Of the many techniques of manufacture, can be classified into 3 broad outline only, namely:

a. Stop Motion Animation: ie making the animation in a way shoot one at a picture using a video or movie camera. This animation requires a fairly high cost, the manufacturing process is very long and requires a lot of animators. Staining technique is still manual, so it takes gallons of paint color. This technique requires a mica (Celluloid), poster paint, and roll Celluloid film production process. This method is used by the maker of animated films with a large scale in the era before the digital age is found.

b. Hybrid 2D Animation: ie making the animation manually by drawing on paper, in-scan (digitizing process) and then processed in the computer. Animation is called hybrid because it combines lkeammpuan images with manual and computerized. The cost of making the animation is relatively less expensive because the coloring is done by digital format on the computer, so no longer use the manual color paint, although the draw is still using the old way is by drawing on paper by hand. By using this technique, an animated film can only be done by an animator or can also be done with a great team, according to the needs and time specified.

c. 2D Digital Animation: the making of pure animation using computer techniques, ranging from drawing to coloring. Usually using a mouse or electronic pen tablet in the drawing. If not used to using two tools above, then the resulting picture will look stiff. The cost of film production by using this technique will be pressed more cheaply in another appeal animation techniques, because all the process done with a digital format. This animation technique is usually only used for the animated-short animation.

The basics of 2D Cartoon Animation

The basics of cartoon animation is not much different from the basics senu painting or artistic drawing, where necessary the rules of art (composition, harmony, balance), the elements of art (line, color, shape, dark-light) and knowledge of anatomy. It's just that there are elements of motion in the animation and sound that are not on painting and fine arts. In this paper will only discuss the three basic elements, namely:

Anatomy

Knowledge of this anatomy is necessary because after all depictions of objects (people, animals, plants) in certain forms (cartoon, deformation, decorative) still have to refer to the basic anatomy to achieve the harmony of forms.

Break-down character

An animator is required to master the technique of visualizing the figures with the use point of view (angle) from anywhere. If there is a character in a work book that uses visible fathoms (front-angle) only, the animator should be able to draw figures / characters from the rear, side, three-quarter view, birds eye view (bieye angle), as well as the eye worm (worm eye angle).

Frame

The frame is the unit used in making animated films. It can also be interpreted frame is a picture that is displayed in a single period of time / specific duration. The American animator wear standard frames per each second (1 second = 24fps1). While the animators who worked for a TV network uses frames per second (1 sec = 25 fps) for PAL and 30 frames per second (1 sec = 30 fps) for NTSC. To display the animation one frame of action that requires a single image for each frame for one second take 24 pictures. If the same action be animated by using a double frame, where each image in the show two times in a row, it takes 12 drawings, but the number of frames and the speed of its action remains the same.

Line

There are several kinds of lines that can be used in making animated cartoons, including single line, line-out single with a thick line and thin solid line. It is suggested, using a single line using a 2B pencil 0.5 mm size. In betweener expected adept at making a single line with a smooth, not ndredeg, line thickness is constant and can create the median line (the line between) the two lines within a certain distance. In connection with the line, on digital coloring stage, there is often difficulty in staining because many lines that do not close and connected with other lines. Keep in mind the principle of digital coloring

History of Animation

Already since the days of pre-history, mankind has been able to create images that depict motion. Evident since the discovery of wall paintings found in caves in Spain and France that experts say was made 30,000 years ago. Paintings that depict animal movements that are running, with a painted picture foot until you see 6-8 foot piles.

Important discoveries in 1644 occurred in the animated film world, with the discovery of the Magic Lantern by Athanasius Kircher, who represents the embryo of a camera projector. Pieter Van Musschenbroek German was the first to create animated images in 1736 by using a tool named Thaumatrope. This tool is like an optical toy in the form of a rotating cylinder which has essentially objects that make up a particular figure when seen through the holes provided. From these findings, emerging and developing other similar tools, such as Fantascope, Phenakistiscope, Zeotrope and Tachyscope to grow until the invention of Thomas Alva Edison who successfully combines a recorder and photography into a single unit in 1889. The projector is made Thomas Alva Edison Kinetoscope named.

Film animation in the form of a picture began to develop since entering in 1900. 1907, J Stuart Blackton of American animated film entitled Humorous Phases of Funny Faces. A year later (1908) appears Phantasmagoria made by Emile Cohl of France. Successively later Winson McKay an American artist to make an animated film Little Nemo and Gertie, The Trained Dinosaur more successful than the first film. In 1911 Ladislav Starevick make films with the first stop motion techniques, while the length animated film was first made by Lotte Reineger from Germany under the title Die Abenteuer des Prinz Achmets in 1926.

By 1928, Mickey Mouse was born by Walt Disney Studios in the U.S. is still with the black and white. Development of color animated film begins with the film Three Little Pigs by Walt Disney. While the story length animated film made in 1937 with the title of Snow White and the Seven Dwarts.
1940 to 1950 show the animators, animators who fought against the naturalist style of Walt Disney, like Hanna Barbera, Tex Avery, Walter Lantz and Charles Jones. However, the phenomenon of sophistication of Walt Disney with his cell animation has spread throughout the world. The existence of the innovations in the game camera, sound, color, motion effects and techniques to make successful in attracting many lovers of Disney animated films to see animated films he made.

Of the some of existing definitions, it can be concluded animation is, a series of images that do not move, the objects or human bodies in various positions of the projected movement in one area (space) into an illusion of motion that gives the impression of living.

In later development, not just animation produced by hand drawing, but could be built on a collection of photography, and even drawn directly through the computer.

Compared with a live movie that has its roots from the world of photography, animation stems from the world of images and illustrations that are related to the film in its technical processes. It could be said animation is a medium that was born from two disciplines, movies and pictures.
